Elena Fateeva is an Audit Manager for Deloitte and Touche.
'At university I wanted to work in the public sector but working for the Big Four also appealed to me. That’s why I chose to go into accountancy. ACCA appealed to me because it’s a broad qualification and has a large, global membership. It is a versatile qualification that allows you to transfer from one sector to another or even work across sectors. And because ACCA is better recognised globally there are more opportunities.'
'When I started studying I noticed that a lot of people had chosen ACCA. We had a choice between ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA but I didn’t want to pigeon hole myself to the public sector or management accounting so I decided to do ACCA as it covers these areas and more. My current role means that I effectively work in two sectors – I work for a practice firm as an Audit Manager but the clients I work with are from the public sector.'
'As a manager I like the planning work, I like talking to the managers across the council getting to know them, building relationships, learning more about the public sector and the issues they face.'
'ACCA provide you with a transferable qualification and skills. As a manager I now have to do a lot more planning work – which I really enjoy. It’s all about building relationships with people and learning more about how different organisations work. The breadth of experience is great and a lot of what I am doing has been covered by the ACCA Qualification so I feel prepared to take on new challenges.'
