You want to travel, meet people from other cultures, have some unforgettable experiences and make new friends; AV will arrange that.
You want to be totally independent but be treated as an individual, who really counts from the outset – knowing someone’s always there for you; that’s how AV built its reputation.
You can teach, coach sports or work on community, conservation and environmental projects from five weeks to five months in:
- Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi)
- Asia (India, Nepal, China and Thailand)
- Central America (Mexico)

“AV in India was a challenge like no other for me. Africa and Asia Venture had organised a three-month teaching placement for us in some villages in the foothills of the Himalayas. Our teaching allocation was left largely up to our hosts, meaning we were always placed somewhere where we would be appreciated. Being in a village gave us the added opportunity to immerse ourselves in an obscure and fascinating culture and this emerged as one of the things most fondly missed on our return. Our time with these wonderful people was followed by a week-long expedition and 3 weeks of backpacking around India. It was an unbeatable gap year and the best experience of my life.”
